Policies and Procedures
-
Our educational program is fully committed to providing equal access to all students, complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. We ensure that all course materials, digital platforms (learning management systems, websites), and physical facilities are accessible.
If you require accommodations or encounter any accessibility barriers in our curriculum, please contact: gestaltir@gmail.com to formalize your accommodations, or reach out directly to the instructor so we can ensure your learning needs are met.
-
Participants of the GIR are expected to maintain the confidentiality of other GIR students and faculty at all times. The rule of thumb is that you may always share your own memories, stories, and reflections as your own; however, you should never share details that would expose, name, describe, or identify anyone else.
Participants who believe their confidentiality has been breached should notify the Director of GIR, Stephanie Joseph: gestaltir@gmail.com as soon as possible. Stephanie will determine on a case-by-case basis how the breach should be handled within the Institute.
A serious breach may result in a written notice to the appropriate Board of Licensure if it is a therapeutic/licensing concern.
-
The GIR maintains secure, private databases of student information, attendance, and financial details. Any student wishing to review their personal data may do so by contacting Stephanie Joseph, the Director of GIR: gestaltir@gmail.com.
Should you find incorrect data on any of the GIR’s materials, please notify us so that we can correct it.
-
Students who have concerns, complaints, or disputes should first contact the person(s) who is (are) directly involved in the issue.
If it isn’t possible to resolve it with that person (people), bring it to the attention of the Director of GIR (gestaltir@gmail.com).
The Director will determine next steps on a case-by-case basis.
Whenever possible, concerns should be raised within the group setting so that all participants may practice therapeutic interventions shown to have value in relationship repair.
Students are invited to use their best communication skills and tools such as non-violent communication, in addressing any difficulty between members of the training community. This is important for becoming a skillful therapist or coach.
Whenever a client has a concern or complaint, the therapist/coach is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the clients. Conflict resolution skills are essential to our work.
In some cases, the concern may be included in evaluation summaries (without any identifying details) so that improvements in program, policy or procedure can be made. GIR does not guarantee any specific outcome, but encourages every student to use conflict as teachers of Gestalt practice and show appropriate care, concern and compassion for all involved.
-
Faculty are asked to provide attendance data to the administration staff of GIR. You must be present at the beginning and end of a class and have participated throughout to receive credit for having attended that segment. Each half day is considered one segment and is worth approximately 3.5 hours.
-
Students will be given regular anonymous opportunities to evaluate our program, courses, and other aspects of the Institute.
Please share in as much detail and clarity as possible so that we can use your thoughts and ideas to improve our practices.
-
Students will be given links, titles, or handout attachments by email for their own personal use. As long as a text is being used by a student for educational purposes, copyright laws are met. Please do not print multiple copies or pass printed materials to others not in the class as these would be breaches of copyright laws.
-
Students will be asked to sign a waiver for recording, photos, or other disclosure purposes. This waiver will be kept on file.
If you do not sign a waiver for some reason, it is your responsibility to use appropriate means to exclude yourself from the action. Faculty will not necessarily monitor disclosure. IF you record a session with a client, please secure permission to share it prior to the use.
-
It is of the utmost importance to realize our work is done on ourselves with our real stories, lives, and issues. This can be tender material for most of us. Please use your best skills and care in providing feedback to others.
